COLTON FIRE DISTRICT MINUTES MARCH 11, 2010
Present: Dennis Eickhoff, Paul Caster, Charles Wright, Jerry Wilson, Bill Smith, MJ Watson
Chairman Eickhoff called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.
Caster moved and Wright seconded that the minutes of the February 11, 2010 meeting be approved with the correction that the vehicle R33 should be corrected to R16. Carried Unanimously.
Wilson moved and Caster seconded that the early bills in the amount of $161.79 and the regular bills in the amount of $39,821.27 be approved for payment. Carried Unanimously.
The airpak bottles currently need testing. Safair has done this in the past but only do ½ at a time. Since the district cannot be without airpaks, a closer vendor is needed. Commissioners will follow up with Cascade System and Tyler.
Smith reported that during the recent clean up of the station, a black tool chest was found containing 3 to 4 steel bottles. Decision was to sell them for scrap.
John Hart has not completed the work on R16.
Wright reported that there had been two short meetings regarding a new fire station. The committee members are going to visit the stations at Cranberry Lake and Helena to get ideas. Wilson requested that the old letters that he made years ago be placed on the new station. Currently, the District does not have a ten year plan for replacement of equipment, buildings, etc.
It is anticipated that the clean up of the Clark properties will be completed before Colton Country Days. Possibly the smaller building can be used for a training ventilation test. The larger building would be a problem for use in a ventilation test. Wright will contact Rick Wright, Colton DPW Superintendent, for information about various contractors he had used for demolishing the Hamilton house in South Colton. Wright will obtain bids and a contract awarded at the April meeting.
Caster reported that the old Dodge (Wilson's twin on wheels) had been started for Asa Garlough's funeral. Caster indicated his willingness to work with John Sleeper to fix up the truck. Harold Granger still has the chrome. He might ask Dale Rexford and Bill Mousaw, Colton's antique car experts, for further assistance.
The District has received the $400 refund from NYS Fire Academy that was erroneously remitted to the Department.
Caster moved and Wright seconded that Roderic Kenyon be approved for membership in the Department. Carried Unanimously.
Caster moved and Wright seconded that William Watson be approved for membership in the Department upon successful completion of his drug test. Carried Unanimously. Smith reported that Watson had gone to the hospital for the test but encountered a billing problem. A form needs to be updated. Marta Whalen will be contacted to revise the form.
Smith reported that Scott White was at Dr. Baltazar's office for his physical. The applications of Jeff and Angel Angelberger are not yet complete.
Caster moved and Wright seconded that Scott White be approved for membership upon receipt of his physical.
Wright moved and Wilson seconded that Nicole Smith be approved as a RAM member. Carried Unanimously.
Wright reported that the lights at the South Colton station were not working correctly. The bulbs keep blowing at a cost of $18 each. Smith to contact S&L Electric to determine the source of the problem. Smith to obtain quote from S&L for new wall packs that need replacing.
The pump transfer case on E10 is blowing oil. Mike Sutton will be contacted to fix it. Route 11 or Chub in Norwood would know the type of oil needed.
Smith indicated that check lists had been prepared on the various vehicles and equipment. The check lists indicate that the fire extinguishers are outdated and have been taken off the trucks. Wright will contact the Town to obtain the name of the person who services their extinguishers.
On the check list for TA4, the rear bulb is out and the blower fan on the heater needs to be checked.
The generator on E81 is back but there was no gas in it since after it was used on East Hill, it was not refilled. It has since been refilled. The tower light on the passenger side is not working. The power is suspected to be the problem since there are three bulbs there.
The siren on R16 is not working.
On the ambulance the square lights light up but do not flash. The flasher needs to be replaced. Wilson to check.
Alex Saucier and Nicole Smith will be going to EMT school in the fall. Possibly, three more radios will be needed.
Eickhoff suggested that on a training night everyone be asked to bring in their gear. Some of the pagers are not working. There are 8 usable ones now.
Marta Whalen will make a spreadsheet to track the status of the gear and to whom it is assigned.
Joe Larue and Simone Ames will be contacted to determine the status of their radios.
Dan from Barkleys Keys has installed a new modem in South Colton so the key problem is corrected.
The truck committee will obtain four quotes for a new truck.
Caster moved and Wright seconded that $37,500 be placed in the Equipment Reserve account and $37,500 be placed in the Building Reserve Account. Carried Unanimously.
Watson quickly reviewed the financial statements noting that the tax monies had been received from the Town.
The meeting adjourned at 7:50 p.m.
Respectfully submitted, MJ Watson
