COLTON FIRE DISTRICT REGULAR MEETING

DECEMBER 2, 2010

Present: Dennis Eickhoff, Charles Wright, Jerry Wilson, Paul Caster, Dave Crosby, MJ Watson

Eickhoff called the meeting to order at 7 p.m.

Wright moved and Caster seconded that the minutes of the November meeting be approved. Carried Unanimously.

Wilson moved and Wright seconded that the early bills in the amount of $123.15 and regular bills in the amount of $40,043.06 be approved. Carried Unanimously.

The roof on the South Colton station has been completed and a 20 year warranty will be received from Carlisle. Ward Excavating has cleaned out the pond and Wright has the piping in place.

New chairs have been received at the Colton station and they have a 10 year limited warranty.

New hose has not bee received as yet.

An energy audit will be conducted on December 3 at both stations.

The lock system is still not fixed but the keys are working for Colton station. More work is needed on the data transfer portion of the system.

Fire Service Safety has completed the safety check on all the ladders. The officers will be advised that a monthly inspection is required for all ground ladders and this step should be added to the monthly checklist performed by the Department.

EVOC training class has been scheduled.

Department members are to be reminded that air bottles cannot be dragged across the tile in the Station. The green paint on the tile has gouges.

Crosby reported that the building committee is at the point of deciding on the building size. There is a small but vocal group for keeping the Firemen's Field. Possibly any proceeds from the sale of the Field could be used to finance a new kitchen facility. A dining hall in the new building has received about 50-50 support from community members.

Wilson noted that the old building is not energy efficient to convert it to a dining hall. Possibly, the ambulance, trailer, etc. could be stored in the old station. The suggestion was to sell the CR58 lot and purchase the Spellacy lot for additional space for the new station. Crosby noted that it would be cheaper to make the old station a storage building. The Department is moving forward on a new truck purchase which would replace two of the old vehicles. Possibly 4 bays would be sufficient in the new station but 6 bays would be preferable. EMS has indicated their preference to move to the new building. It would be better to keep everything together.

The South Colton station is a newer building than the Colton building. The boat, etc. could be stored there. Accidents are more prevalent south of South Colton.

Crosby moved and Caster seconded that the consensus would be to have 6 bays and a dining hall in the new facility for a total of 9400 sq feet. A second floor would be over part of the new building. Crosby will pursue cost estimates. Carried Unanimously. Eickhoff would like to see a time line, e.g. obtain Department land, Spellacy property purchase, sell CR 58 property, meeting with contractor, etc., etc.

The Department has not yet officially voted on the land acquisition by the District at their November meeting.

Crosby noted that the history of the department should be recognized and that the old Dodge should be repaired and be visible to the members of the community giving the Department the respect which it deserves. Wilson requested that the letters that he made on the current station be transferred to the new building.

Caster noted that the District is spending a lot of money on turn out gear and that the firemen need to wear them. Some firemen were not wearing their gear at the recent Higley fire.

The South Colton siren is not working. Wright will get manufacturer's name and model and pursue repair.

There will be a special meeting on December 28, 2010 at 6:30 p.m. to approve the final bills and Department officers.

The hearing adjourned at 8:00 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,
MJ Watson
