COLTON FIRE DISTRICT MEETING DECEMBER 10, 2009
Present: Dennis Eickhoff, Paul Caster, Charles Wright, Jerry Wilson, Rick Wood, MJ Watson Also in attendance: Dave Crosby
Chairman Eickhoff called the meeting to order at 7:03 p.m.
Caster moved and Wilson seconded that the minutes of the November meeting be approved. Carried Unanimously.
Wilson moved and Caster seconded that early bills in the amount of $64.16 and regular bills in the amount of $3,421.70 be approved. Carried Unanimously.
Watson reviewed the financial statements and answered questions.
Wood moved and Caster seconded that North Country Collision use a recycled hood off a school bus for $1,495 to repair R-16 for a total estimated cost of $ 2.745. A new hood would cost $2,563 for a total repair cost of $4,088. Carried Unanimously.
No complaints have been received regarding the South Colton bathrooms.
Eickhoff reported that he had signed for a new Xerox machine and Wood will install it with a savings of $150 for the District. The new machine will cost $86.24 per month compared to the current $97.40 per month.
Caster moved and Wilson seconded that the District pay FASNY dues for five years for $100 rather than paying $25 per year. Carried Unanimously.
The District is currently waiting for information on three people before they can be voted into the Department.
Wood moved and Caster seconded that the Church property on CR 58 be sold. Carried unanimously. Eickhoff to contact Father Ray to determine the identity of the other party interested in the property. Watson will break out the expenses incurred to date on that property.
Eickhoff reported that quit claim deeds had been received on the two Clark parcels. He had received a phone call from someone who had provided sheet rock and windows and who wanted the material back. A friend of Chris Clark (last name of Deon) who is interested in tearing down the buildings has contacted the District. When the Commissioners decide to proceed whoever is selected to tear down the property must have liability insurance. In the meantime the property will be posted. Wood moved and Caster seconded that the buildings be advertised for demolition for the March meeting with a July 1 completion date.
Wilson moved and Caster seconded that the December 3, 2009 letter from Sharon Andrews notifying of the Department election of officers be approved. Carried Unanimously.
The beneficiary forms for life insurance need to be updated.
Wilson moved and Caster seconded that the new Xerox contract be approved. Carried Unanimously.
The front door to Station #1 needs repair. Caster fixed it temporarily but it will be checked by the locksmith.
Caster moved and Wood seconded that premium diesel be purchased from Griffith Energy who currently has the state contract for premium diesel. Concern was expressed about service out of Malone. Other municipalities such as Gouverneur have switched to premium diesel. Carried Unanimously.
There is a problem with the outside lighting at Station 2 over the old tank. The bulbs keep blowing out and each bulb costs $18. This will be pursued.
Caster moved and Wilson seconded that the District reimburse the Department for the base phone charge twice a year rather than monthly. Carried Unanimously.
Wright reported that he had brought the South Colton computer to the Colton station. According to the grant monies used to purchase them, both computers should be used for training purposes.
The reorganization meeting will be held January 7 at 6 p.m. with the regular meeting immediately following. Donna Arquiett will be present to swear in Dave Crosby as a new commissioner. The regular meeting of the District will be held the second Thursday of the month at 7 p.m. with no meetings anticipated for July and August. Watson will send legal notice to the Courier.
