COLTON FIRE DISTRICT MINUTES OCTOBER 8, 2009

<

Present: Dennis Eickhoff, Charles Wright, Jerry Wilson, Paul Caster, MJ Watson Audience: John Horanzy (arrived late)

Eickhoff called the meeting to order at 7 p.m.

Wilson moved and Eickhoff seconded that the minutes of the September 9, 2009 meeting be approved with correction noted that it should have been Trevor D'Amour and not Trevor Wood indicated in the minutes. Carried Unanimously.

Eickhoff moved and Wright seconded that bills in the amount of $ 3,646.98 be approved. Carried Unanimously.

Eickhoff noted that Phil Wagner had paid for the fuel tank from the Field. No bids were received on the South Colton tank. Permission given for Watson to advertise in the Free Trader, etc.

A bill was received from Cappello, Linden, Ladouceur for work on the Sabin litigation with the rescue squad. The bill was paid by the insurance company. Sabin alleges a human rights violation regarding the refusal of rescue squad personnel to take his dogs in the ambulance.

The door at the Colton station has not been finished as yet but will be before winter.

Concern was expressed about the District's inclusion on the Department website. Various errors noted included reference to company #1 and company #2 when there is now only one company. The numbers should refer to stations, rather than companies. There is also concern that Judy, who is not a member of the department or a fire commissioner, is answering questions on behalf of the department and district. She has no authority to answer questions. The Fire Department has not formally authorized the website. The Commissioners indicated that they did not want their minutes posted on a website.

Eickhoff reported that state contract vendors had changed-Griffith now has the fuel oil contract rather than MX and Adirondack Energy has the diesel contract rather than Griffith. Watson will contact respective suppliers and supply whatever information is needed to switch to state contract vendors.

Caster moved and Wilson seconded that Steve Spear of Fire Service Safety Testing be contracted to test ladders. Carried Unanimously.

The phones in the two stations currently can be used only for local calls. If the phone at the Colton station is switched to Time Warner, the cost to the District would be $24.95 per month. The Department currently pays $78.20 per month for Time Warner road runner, and if phone is added, the cost for roadrunner would drop to $74.00 per month, a savings of $4.20 to the Department. The District will reimburse the Department $24.95 per month for phone at Colton station. Caster moved and Wilson seconded that the phone at the Colton station be converted to Time Warner. Carried Unanimously. The phone in Station #2 would remain with Verizon. Eickhoff to pursue with Time Warner.

A renewal notice has been received regarding NYS Labor Law posters requiring payment of $85.50 before November 1. Wilson moved and Wright seconded that this be paid immediately. Carried Unanimously.

FASNY dues are payable by December 31.

Wright reported that T88 is losing air pressure and an appointment will be made with Route 11 for repairs.

Watson presented the financial statements with 2010 budget. With the purchase of the property across the street, Watson recommended that $10,000 be added to Building and Land Acquisition to cover demolition costs, etc. Caster moved and Wright seconded that the budget be approved. Carried Unanimously.

At Station #2 the roof is leaking over R33 because the decking screws are pushing up through the rubber roof. This will be corrected when a new roof is put on the station in 2010.

Wilson moved and Caster seconded that the meeting be adjourned at 7:37. Carried Unanimously.

Respectfully submitted,

MJ Watson
