In Memory of Asa Garlough

It is with great sadness that we have to announce the passing of Asa Garlow on 2/5/10.

He was an active member of the Colton Fire Department for many years and past Chief. He was named Fire Fighter of the Year this past year. He was also a member of the St. Lawrence County Fire Chiefs Assoc., Northern NY Firemen's Assoc., and a charter member of the Norfolk Rescue Squad.

During the many years that he served, he was a dedicated member of the department, contributing his time and effort, both as a fire fighter, chief, and participant in department functions.

He was also a true friend and will be missed by all the members of the fire department and the community.

The family has requested that Memorial Donations be made to the
Colton Fire Department at PO Box 304, Colton, NY, 13625
or to the American Heart Association.

Friends may call at the Buck Funeral Home in Colton
Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM.

The Funeral Service will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at
St. Patrick's Church in Colton

Meet Your Volunteers

We would like to start introducing you to the special people who volunteer their time to protect you, your families and your property.

We weren't sure where to start, so we decided to introduce you to the newest volunteers for now and then others every few weeks.

As you may have read in The Chief's Corner , we have gotten 4 new volunteers so far this year and are interviewing two others.

Meet Trevor D'Amour

Trevor joined the Colton Fire Department this summer. When I asked him why he chose to do that, he said it was because he really likes living in Colton and felt that he wanted to do something to help out the community. He felt that the best thing he could do was to volunteer with the fire department.

Trevor moved to Colton 7 years ago from the Titus Mountain area. His wife, Kelly (Sochia), grew up in Potsdam. but moved to Colton in 2000. Both felt that this was a good place to settle, besides the fact that they just really likes the area and the people.

Working at Seaway Timber Harvesting keeps him busy, but he finds time to do other things such as hunting, fishing and other outdoor activities. All of these keep him in good shape for volunteering with the fire department.

Right now, Trevor is training to be an Interior Fire Fighter. In a few years, after he feels comfortable with that position, he may consider other classifications, but not just yet.

Be sure to say "Hi" when you see him and thank him for sharing his time with the community.
